Option #1: Video Project
Your first option to complete the out of class assignment is to complete two hours of videoing outside of class. Throughout the quarter, you will be able to choose from a variety of school-related events (sporting, concerts, etc.). You will video the event for the school district’s YouTube site or newspaper. The number of people who are able to video any given event will be limited and you must sign up prior to the event to participate. You are expected to arrive 15 minutes before the event and stay until the end.
After successfully videoing the event, you will receive a 100% on this assignment and you will have completed the requirement for the quarter.

Option #2: Essay Project
Your second option to complete this assignment is to write a 5-7 page paper analyzing a current news story. You will research a contemporary news story and analyze how several different media agencies dealt with the story. Whatever topic you choose, you must find at least ten different news agencies and how they covered the topic. Were they biased? Did they all present the same information? How did newspapers cover the story versus the internet versus television? You must also research whether the news agency in question is known to have a particular bias. For instance, some claim that Fox News is intentionally conservative in their reporting and CNN is intentionally liberal. How do those designations influence the way they report the story?
Your analysis essay must be turned in one week prior to the end of the quarter. It should include appropriate MLA Citations and a Works Cited page.
